The route is a splendid itinerary that winds between 1,800 and 2,100 meters of altitude on an ancient military road now better known by the name of Via del Sale. The entirely dirt track linking the two countries has a total length of 39 km and is open to transit in the summer and autumn months. Freely accessible by hikers and cyclists, the road is also open to motorized vehicles after a toll is paid. The route crosses enchanting places such as the suggestive area of the carsene with its lunar landscapes, the unspoilt environments of the protected areas of the Alpes Maritimes and the park of the Ligurian Alps characterized by a rich biodiversity, the wonderful Forest of the shuttles and the military fortifications of the late nineteenth century. The extraordinary charm of the countless panoramic views that accompany the traveller impresses indelible memories that push to attend this fascinating track again.
